I realized I haven’t shared many pictures from my house. Here is a pic of my room at sunset! I moved my chair out there to work on some homework since the weather was nice.
March 8 was International Women’s Day (El día internacional de la mujer). I was able to attend the march in Montevideo with my Women’s Activism class. I was blown away. We talked with some of the other people on our way to the march and they helped us get off at the right stop and get to the plaza. The whole time I felt a sense of unity and a mission to support and celebrate each other. It was a very powerful experience.
Every once in a while I get the chance to sit down with my host mom and we get caught in conversation for hours. I find myself feeling very at home. Last week, she was getting ready to cook and I had been missing the process of cooking lately, so I asked her to teach me. We spent the evening in the kitchen sharing stories about our families. Because of the way Pata has welcomed me into her home, I have been able to call it my home. Photos of me making “panqueques franceses” (crepes). I’ve decided that is one of my favorite phrases to say.
On Monday we got to tour Palacio Legislativo (think Congress). It is always interesting to compare and contrast how different governments operate. Getting to tour one of the main buildings of Uruguay’s government allowed me to picture a little better how things work here. I noticed a lot of similarities between the U.S. Legislative Branch and the Legislative branch in Uruguay.

Went to a Karaoke bar, signed up to sing Waterloo. We were unaware there was a Spanish version. Ask us how well that went…
Spent an afternoon at Huerta Comunitaria. There was a composting workshop and we got to plant some lettuce and pepper plants. I am looking forward to going back!
That‘s all for now! Cheers to 8 more weeks!
Love seeing your adventures. You are certainly living your best life!
